Summary

On March 17, 1956, prisoners on Ground Observer Corps duty at Folsom Prison, California, reported one object. The report was made under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.

The witnesses said the object was wing-shaped and about the size of a B-29 aircraft. It was black with red and white lights and made a jet-like noise. They thought it was a flying wing. The object came from the southeast, made one orbit over the prison, then headed northwest. It faded from sight after about four minutes.

The Air Force concluded the sighting was probably an aircraft. The record said the details fit the criteria for an aircraft. A preliminary report was received on AF Form 112.
