Summary

On the morning of July 18, 1949, several military personnel at Fairfield Suisun Air Force Base in California spotted what they described as flying saucers moving at extremely high speed. The sightings occurred between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. while a C-82 transport plane (a large two-boom cargo aircraft) was flying overhead. The objects were visible for only about four or five seconds before disappearing.

Three witnesses provided detailed accounts. All described the objects as round and dull white or bright silver in color. They said the objects were traveling eastward and moving as fast as or faster than the C-82, which they estimated to be at an altitude of about 5,000 to 8,000 feet. One witness thought they resembled jet planes at first. None of the witnesses heard any sound, saw any exhaust trails, or noticed any unusual behavior like sharp turns. The weather was clear with unlimited visibility.

The Fairfield-Suisun Air Force Base submitted the incident report to Air Materiel Command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base on July 26, 1949, as required by regulation. The report included all eyewitness statements and a summary of observations. No photographs or physical evidence was recovered. The Air Force concluded the case as unidentified, meaning they could not determine what the objects were.
