Project Blue Book Case File
Camp Hood, Fort Worth, Texas Area, March 1949March 1949
Summary
Between March and May 1949, many sightings were reported near Camp Hood and the Killeen area of Texas. The reports were collected and forwarded by an Army base command in June 1949. The Air Force conclusion for the overall case was "insufficient data for evaluation." The reports became part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
The sightings were made by Camp Hood and Killeen Base personnel, not by the reporting station's own staff. The list ran from early March to late May. Many were brief flashes of blue-white or white light lasting about one second. Others were colored lights, blinking lights, or fast-moving objects with trails.
Some later sightings were tracked by Army artillery observation posts using triangulation. These were described as brilliant, diamond-shaped lights about 20 to 40 feet across, changing color from red to green to white, and moving slowly. Other objects seen in daylight were described as small, round, and brilliant white. Reports on each sighting were sent to the Air Materiel Command.
