Summary

On December 1, 1957, observers near Fairbanks, Alaska reported two separate objects. The first was a round object about the size of a medium star, seen for 20 to 35 seconds in a straight descending arc. A weather forecaster tried to fix its position with a theodolite but could not, and could not relocate it in the instrument. The second object was reddish-orange and was in view for about two seconds, reported by a control tower operator. The sky was overcast with calm surface winds. The Air Force recorded the case under Project 10073, its official record for unidentified flying object reports. The card lists the conclusion as astronomical. It states the second object was definitely a meteor and the first was probably a meteor, even though the forecaster said it was neither a star nor a meteor.
