Summary

On September 18, 1958, a civilian in East Meadow, Long Island, New York observed an unusual object at night. The object was more than round, one foot to eighteen inches long, very high, very bright silver, and white vapor surrounding it like steam. It disappeared and reappeared six times. The observation lasted five minutes. The witness was at home when the object was sighted. Weather conditions included haze at 5,600 feet with broken visibility. The Air Force concluded the sighting was unidentified and marked it with insufficient data for evaluation.
