Project Blue Book Case File
Del Rosa, CaliforniaNovember 1957
Summary
On November 26 and 27, 1957, a civilian in Del Rosa, California, saw a very bright yellowish red light on two separate occasions, each lasting about thirty seconds. The sightings were reported as a ground visual observation.
The witness was sitting indoors with the lights off when they spotted the object, which appeared roughly twelve degrees above the horizon, near the lighted towers at Norton. The object appeared steady in brightness and the witness was unable to identify it with any known aircraft or celestial object.
The Air Force evaluated this case as "probably aircraft" based on the description and timing. The file indicates that weather conditions at the time were clear, with surface winds calm. An officer noted that aviation activity was reported over Norton at the time of the sighting, supporting the assessment that this was likely a conventional aircraft misidentified under the lighting conditions of dusk or dawn.
