Summary

In August 1952, multiple witnesses in Mount Vernon, New York reported seeing an unusual object in the sky. The object was described as lifesaver-shaped with a black hole in the bottom and smoke coming from the top. It traveled in a fifteen degree arc at an estimated altitude of thirty thousand feet, moving back and forth between north and south for approximately two hours.

The sighting was observed by a woman and a sixteen-year-old boy, plus a girl. An aircraft was scrambled to search the area but found nothing. The file notes that military and commercial aircraft were operating in the vicinity at the time. While the record card indicates the object's shape and smoke trail, the evaluation in this case file is marked as unknown. The full case file is reproduced below as held by the National Archives, totaling 30 pages.
