Summary

On May 7, 1962, a civilian driving on U.S. Highway 100 between London and Danville, Kentucky, reported a bright object at about 4:00 a.m. He saw a bright red object with a long, white, even tail go down and disappear into a valley west of the road.

The object made no noise and the tail was untapered. The driver reported it to a local police department, which showed no interest. Investigators noted the witness sounded rational and concerned. The report reached the Air Force through the FBI and the Office of Special Investigations.

This report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force noted the object had the characteristics of a meteor. Although no duration was given, officials said nothing indicated that this conclusion was not valid.
