Summary

On November 15, 1961, a civilian in Collins, Ontario, Canada, reported an object at about 8:42 p.m. local time. The witness was skating on a pond about a half mile from town when he saw a very large ball of fire. It traveled through the air at low altitude, below the clouds, heading from east to west at a good speed, about five miles away. The witness said it was not an aircraft or a weather balloon. One object was seen. The sky was 4,000 feet overcast at 8:30 p.m. and 3,000 feet overcast at 9:00 p.m. The Air Force noted the overcast may have been local and the object some distance away. It listed the case as a probable meteor of the fireball type.
