Summary
# Summary
On October 29, 1959, a military observer at North Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, watched a circular or oval object move from horizon to horizon in 10 to 15 minutes. The object appeared fire red or orange in color and glowed brightly. The observer estimated its speed at about 500 miles per hour, or roughly 500 knots. No sound, tail, or other noticeable features accompanied the sighting.
The object moved in a straight line on a westerly course. No radar contact was made with the object, and no air traffic was reported in the area at the time. The observer estimated the object's diameter at roughly 1.5 to 2 feet, though the file notes the observer may have been estimating comparative size rather than absolute size.
The Air Force investigation raised questions about the sighting. An intelligence officer asked for clarification on several points: whether the object had passed directly over the observer, how the observer had calculated the object's speed, and whether other witnesses could be found. The officer also noted that the object's apparent size and speed ruled out a balloon.
The investigation file shows the Air Force did not reach a definitive conclusion about what the object was. The file describes the object and lists it as unknown.
