Project Blue Book Case File
Brooklyn, New YorkJuly 1958
Summary
# Brooklyn, New York, July 1958
On a clear night in July 1958, an air control engineer in Brooklyn looked up at the sky and saw something unusual. A ring of light with a dark center hung above the trees. The object appeared to be made of small circles. As the witness watched, it rose higher into the air and grew smaller, eventually disappearing into the clouds.
The sighting lasted about five minutes. The weather that night was beautiful, with light winds and scattered clouds. The Air Force contacted nearby airports to see if anyone else had spotted the object. Neither Witchel Tower at Floyd Bennett Airport nor Idlewild Airport reported seeing anything unusual.
According to the official Air Force evaluation form, there was insufficient data to reach a firm conclusion about what the object was. The case remains unexplained in the file. The full case file, consisting of 11 pages, is reproduced below as held by the National Archives.
