Summary

On July 29, 1961, a single bright light was reported by a military source over the Lavaca area. The light was about as bright as a second magnitude star. It passed overhead and faded near the horizon while moving on a course of about 130 degrees. The sighting was made at night in clear conditions. The Air Force evaluated the path, the timing, and the description. The card lists the cause as a satellite, identified with the Echo satellite.
