Insufficient Data

Summary

On December 14, 1961, the crew of the USNS General W. O. Darby reported an object over the North Atlantic, off the coast of England. The sighting was made at about 0040 GMT. It was seen by eye.

The object was described as a missile that was blue, white, red, and green in color. It was flying low and heading northwest at high speed. The crew saw sparking when the object crossed the ship's bow from port to starboard. It kept a steady glide path. The weather was cloudy with rough seas.

The Air Force record card lists this case as insufficient data. The card notes the object had some characteristics of a meteor, but the duration was not given and it crossed low instead of at altitude. Because of this, the case could not be firmly concluded.
