Summary
On May 22, 1961, at about 0849Z (Greenwich time), a military aircrew aboard an RC-121 radar plane reported an object near the coordinates 43 degrees north, 134 degrees west, in flight out of McClellan Air Force Base, California. The report was filed on the Project 10073 record card, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
The crew described the object as oval and silver, about the size of a pinhead. It was seen at night, aft and above the aircraft. It moved on a straight path and was watched for about 7 minutes. The navigator said the object moved from north to south at a very high rate of speed, too fast to view through a sextant.
The intelligence officer noted that the brief 7 minute sighting made a preliminary analysis difficult. The card's location and date fields are hard to read, but the attached message supplies these details.
