Summary
On March 5, 1961, an orbiting object was reported in the Atlantic at about 42 degrees 55 minutes north, 43 degrees 30 minutes west. The report came from a merchant ship. The object looked like a first magnitude star. It was sighted over Venus and faded out under Procyon at 135 degrees. Its speed was unknown, and the duration was not reported.
On Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports, the comments said the object was possibly the satellite Echo I. However, the duration was not given and the directions were too general, so the card listed insufficient data for a valid conclusion.
