Summary

On March 15, 1961, an object was reported near Misawa Air Base, Japan, around 8:20 p.m. local time, near 40 degrees 20 minutes north, 142 degrees 10 minutes east. Three witnesses saw a large object fall out of the sky. An airborne pilot was also involved, heading 340 degrees, and suggested the object was high. There was one object.

On Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports, the conclusion was probably astronomical. The comments said there were no known satellites reentering on that date, and the object had the characteristics of a type of meteor.
