Summary
On July 20, 1961, two pilots aboard an aircraft saw an object over the Pacific Ocean, near 38 degrees 30 minutes north and 125 degrees 58 minutes west. The object's course was to the west.
The object approached the aircraft from the front at the speed of a jet. Its size and shape could not be determined. It then exploded, about 3 to 5 miles from the aircraft. The explosion looked like a white flash with red and white color. The pilots believed it was a fast flying aircraft.
The Air Force noted that with little information, it was probable the observers had underestimated the object's speed and that other characteristics of a bolide were present. The case was assumed to be a bolide sighting.
