Insufficient Data

Summary

On March 15, 1961, an object was reported in the Atlantic at about 37 degrees 35 minutes north, 9 degrees 14 minutes west. The object was at high altitude. It was measured at magnitude 1.7 at 7:42 p.m. GMT, at an altitude of 27 degrees and a bearing of 263 degrees. At 7:48 p.m. GMT it passed about 45 minutes below the star Rigel.

On Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports, the comments said that if the object's brightness was a minus magnitude, it could have been the satellite Echo I. However, the report did not give enough detail, and the card listed insufficient data for a firm conclusion.
