Summary

On July 29, 1962, a military observer at Ocean Station Victor in the Pacific Ocean reported a bright white object. The position was about 34 degrees 42 minutes north and 163 degrees 42 minutes east. The time was 1047Z.

The object was brighter than a first magnitude star. It was seen high in the sky, at about 80 degrees elevation, and headed south. It was visible to the naked eye for about 5 minutes. The sky was clear.

The Air Force record card said the sighting was possibly a satellite. It noted there was no mention of an easterly heading and no report of how the object disappeared. Tracking data for a known satellite was not available. The Air Force listed the case as insufficient data for evaluation.
