Project Blue Book Case File
33.00N 177.00W (Pacific), April 1962April 1962
Summary
On April 29, 1962, a pilot flying over the Pacific Ocean northwest of Hawaii spotted what appeared to be a satellite. The aircraft was at 33 degrees North, 177 degrees West when the pilot observed a bright object to the north, positioned about 31 degrees above the horizon. The object moved from west to east across the sky and remained visible for 10 minutes.
The reporting authorities evaluated the sighting as no threat. The Air Force's project investigators noted that ECHO satellite data was not available to confirm the identification, but found nothing to suggest the object was anything other than a satellite. The case was officially concluded as a possible satellite sighting.
