Summary
On November 15, 1961, a civilian merchant ship reported an object at about 10:32 p.m. (2232 Zulu). The ship's position was near 28 degrees north, 65 degrees west. One cone-shaped object of extreme brilliance was seen, with a comet-like tail. It executed a slow parabolic curve, heading toward a bearing of about 165 degrees and dimming in brightness. Continuous sparks were emitted from below the object. It was in sight for about 4 minutes. The Air Force noted that a missile, the Transit 4B, lifted off at 10:05 p.m. (2205 Zulu) that day and would have been visible in the observers' area at the reported time. It listed the case as a missile.
