Insufficient Data

Summary

On June 17, 1961, a military observer reported an object over the Pacific Ocean, near 20 degrees 2 minutes north and 148 degrees 10 minutes west, around 11:52 a.m. (GMT). The sighting lasted about 10 seconds. The object was spotted northwest of the aircraft, which was heading north northeast.

The object was bright and changed brightness in four stages. It followed a flat trajectory. The report was evaluated as no threat.

The Air Force noted that the short duration pointed to a meteor, but the changes in brightness in stages were not consistent with that. Because the report was brief, the case was listed as insufficient data.
