Project Blue Book Case File
2543N 4822W (ATLANTIC), January 1961January 1961
Summary
On January 29, 1961, at 0912Z, a ship in the Atlantic near 25 degrees 43 minutes north reported one object. It was airborne and very high, traveling very fast on a heading of about 130 degrees true. The sky was clear.
The object crossed in line with the star Vega and was of the same magnitude. The crew thought it was apparently a satellite.
The Air Force conclusion was insufficient data. The comment says the object could have been an artificial satellite, but the report lacked enough data to confirm this, and it could also have been a meteor. The ship's destination was not reported, which prevented a follow-up.
