21.46N 84.47W OVER GULF OF MEXICO, November 1954November 1954
Summary
On November 18, 1954, a military radar operator over the Gulf of Mexico, near 21 degrees 46 minutes north and 84 degrees 47 minutes west, reported one object. The detection came from APQ-24 radar aboard an RB-36 aircraft of a strategic reconnaissance squadron.
The object showed an unknown return on the radar scope. Its speed was about the same as that of the B-36 aircraft. The aircraft was at 14,337 feet, but the object's altitude was unknown. The observer was named in the report as a captain.
The Air Force record, filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports, noted that scope photographs were taken but had not been received. The conclusion was insufficient data for evaluation.
