Summary
On January 10, 1961, the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt at sea in the Atlantic reported one unidentified airborne object on radar. The position was given as latitude 15 degrees 48 minutes north, longitude 73 degrees 40 minutes west.
The object was tracked on SPS-12 radar for about one minute. It was on a course of about 175 degrees at a reported speed of about 3,960 knots. The altitude was unknown. The sighting was made by radar from the ship, not by eye.
The Air Force conclusion was insufficient data for evaluation. The card notes the very short tracking time and that no other radars or task force units backed up the contact, with no follow-up possible.
