Insufficient Data

Summary

On May 14, 1961, a military pilot saw an object over the Atlantic area near 14 degrees 10 minutes north and 95 degrees west, around 2 a.m. (local). The sighting lasted about 5 minutes. The object first headed north, then south.

The object was as bright as a first magnitude star. It flew too high to note its shape, size, or type of propulsion, and had no rocket or meteor trail. It was first seen at about 40 degrees elevation heading north, then stopped twice, made an easy turn, headed south, and disappeared over the southern horizon in about a minute.

The Air Force said it was possible the object was an aircraft flying at high altitude. The report contained very little information on which to base a valid conclusion.
