Summary

On April 19, 1962, near coordinates 14:59 N 149:02 E, a round white object was sighted at night. The object was observed at initial elevation of 020 degrees and disappeared at 057 degrees elevation at 233 degrees bearing. The sighting lasted 7 minutes and was visible for at least 30 minutes. The object disappeared behind clouds. Initial sighting occurred at 0200 hours (2 a.m.) and looked through 7/10 cloud cover in scattered rain squalls. The object was evaluated as a satellite by Navy observers, OOD, JOD, and two lookouts from USS Thomaston. The official conclusion was Satellite.

Round object sighted at night. Color white. No trail or sound. Reported at sight for 7 Min. Disappeared behind cloud. Initial sighting at 020 Elev 45 Az. Disappearing 057 at 233 plv. Sighting at night by OOD, JOD and 2 lookouts through 7/10 cloud cover in scattered rain squalls.

11. COMMENTS:
At 11Z42 on 19 April Echo was below the equator heading NE and would not in visible for at least 30 Min. Longitude listed as 240.060 E and is in error. Object was evaluated as satellite by reporting officials.
