Summary

On July 6, 1962, the crew of a Pan American Airlines flight over the Pacific Ocean reported a flash of light at about 1307Z. The sighting was at position 10 degrees 15 minutes north, 163 degrees 47 minutes west.

The crew saw a bluish flash that seemed to reach clear across the horizon. Shortly afterward they sighted a surface vessel, and a little later a second surface vessel.

This report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The reporting headquarters gave a negative evaluation. The Air Force noted the data was limited and that the object was a possible meteor.
