Summary
On February 10, 1961, a round, white object was reported over the Pacific Ocean near 9 degrees 36 minutes north, 145 degrees 15 minutes west. The sighting came from a military source, the SS Lone Star State, and was relayed by radio and telephone. The object was at a height of about 50 degrees above the horizon. It was moving slowly toward a bearing of about 45 degrees. The sea was calm and the weather was clear.
The record card is part of Project 10073, the Air Force's official file for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force comment said the object was possibly a satellite or a meteor, depending on how long it was visible. The duration was not reported. Because the information was very limited, the file states that no valid conclusion could be reached.
