Summary

On May 14, 1952, in Yellow Springs, Ohio, a college senior reported an unidentified flying object. The sighting happened between about 12:50 and 12:55 a.m. while the witness was walking and glanced up at the clear, moonless sky. He watched from the steps of a building with the naked eye.

The witness saw one object that appeared about the size of a half moon. It glowed with a dull brownish green light, brightest around the edges and shading into darkness toward the interior, giving the impression of more unlighted surface. The object headed almost due west, flying straight and level, and would have passed over Wright-Patterson Field if it had continued.

The object was sharply defined with no tail or trail. It made no sound and performed no maneuvers. It was watched for four to five seconds before disappearing behind trees. The witness estimated its speed at about double that of a jet. The night was described as beautifully clear. On the Air Force record card, the case was marked Probably Astronomical.
