Project Blue Book Case File
Woodstock, MinnesotaDecember 1956
Summary
On December 10, 1956, a farmer near Woodstock, Minnesota, reported one object in the night sky. The case was logged under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The object was shaped like a half sphere with a flat side on top and looked larger than a baseball at arm's length.
The object was fire red and orange. It sat low in the west, then tipped and moved slowly toward the northwest. The witness watched it for about ten minutes. There was no sound. The reporting officer noted the object was at about 15 degrees elevation in the west.
The Air Force concluded the sighting was astronomical and most likely the planet Mars. The card said the red and orange color matched that planet, which was setting toward the northwest at the time. The local commander said he could not give an honest opinion of what it was.
