Summary

On February 18, 1956, a ground observer near Grand Marais, Minnesota, reported an unidentified object at dusk. The sighting came through Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.

The witness, a civilian rated as an excellent observer, said the object was the size of a pumpkin and colored white and blue. It seemed to land in Lake Superior. The object was in view for only 3 or 4 seconds and moved toward the northeast.

The Air Force listed the case as astronomical, a meteor. The record noted that the color and short duration pointed to a possible meteor. It also mentioned that weather balloons were in the area.
