West Point, MississippiAugust 1958
Summary
On the night of August 15, 1958, three people on the western edge of West Point, Mississippi saw an unusual object in the sky. The object was round, about the size of a silver dollar, and glowed reddish blue and white. It moved parallel to the ground and remained visible for 45 minutes before disappearing without any obvious change.
The three witnesses were considered reliable by Air Force investigators. They included an electrical engineer with 8 years of experience, a telephone operator with 27 years of experience, and a 59-year-old housewife. One of the witnesses noticed the object first and called the others' attention to it. The sighting occurred on a clear night at 0230 (2:30 a.m.).
The Air Force sent the report to multiple commands, including the Air Technical Intelligence Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. After analyzing the available information, 1st Lieutenant Walter A. Mestra, the intelligence officer at the 4228th Strategic Wing, concluded that the findings revealed no possible explanation for the sighting. The case was marked as unknown and no conventional explanation was offered.
