Summary

On October 22, 1957, west of Portugal, a civilian reported sighting a strange object approximately 40 degrees above the western horizon passing south to north at high speed. The observer reported the sighting to a Venezuelan Air Force call sign YUCAME. The Air Force received the report through New York Air Operations Center. The object's description and movement led investigators to conclude it was probably a meteor, and definitely not Sputnik. No further information was available.
