Project Blue Book Case File
Washington, D C, June 1963June 1963
Summary
On June 13, 1963, at night, a civilian reported an object near Washington, D.C., about 5 miles north of the Pentagon. The witness was a voluntary worker at the National Institutes of Health. The case was recorded in Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
The object was oval and greenish. It seemed to change in size, from a dim point to about the size of a quarter, and seemed to shine through clouds or mist. It faded during clear patches of sky. It moved back and forth from south to southwest and had a pinkish glow around it. It was seen at about 60 degrees elevation. The witness watched it for over an hour and it was still in sight when they went to bed.
The report noted searchlights were operating to the south of the observer. The case was investigated and evaluated as searchlight activity reflecting on mist, haze, and clouds.
