Summary

On the evening of September 5, 1957, near Wales, North Dakota, an object or objects were seen in the sky. The case file is made up of letters. A university man wrote to his senator asking for an explanation. The senator's inquiry was passed through the Air Force and sent to the Air Technical Intelligence Center for study. The Air Force reply said the sighting was almost certainly a fireball, also called a bolide. It noted other bright fireballs reported that year. The Air Force record card lists the conclusion as astronomical, naming a meteor. The card notes there was no report in the file.
