Summary
On August 4, 1956, a civilian about six miles southwest of Fargo, near Delamero, North Dakota, reported a single object. The sighting was recorded at 1726Z and lasted about forty-four minutes during the daytime.
The witness described one silver, dome-shaped or mushroom-shaped object larger than a basketball. The object rose slowly toward the west and passed directly overhead. The sky was clear with some broken clouds.
The report noted that a weather balloon was in the area at the time of the sighting, and the director on duty thought it might be that balloon. The Air Force agreed the sighting conformed to the criteria for a balloon. The evaluation was balloon.
