Summary

On July 4, 1962, guests at a garden party in Veracruz, Mexico, reported an object at about 2130 (9:30 p.m.) central standard time. The sighting was reported through the State Department.

The object was a luminous light, about the size and brightness of the evening star. It was seen almost directly overhead and crossed the sky very slowly from west to east. The reporting official presumed it was an artificial satellite.

This report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports. The Air Force compared the timing to the Echo satellite, which passed nearby that evening, but could not confirm it without further data. Officials listed the case as insufficient data.
