Summary
On March 15, 1956, a civilian Ground Observer Corps member at Van Nuys, California, reported one object at 1545 (3:45 p.m.). The report was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.
The witness said the object was round and about the size of a pea held at arm's length. It was silver and appeared to stand still directly overhead. The sighting lasted about 15 minutes. The sky was clear with unlimited visibility.
The Air Force concluded the sighting was possibly a balloon. The record said the color and course matched those of a balloon. No interception was made and no further reports came in.
