Summary

On February 21, 1954, a glowing object was reported near Van Nuys, California. The sighting was filed under Project 10073, the Air Force's official record for unidentified flying object reports.

The witness described an object that fit the look of an airplane. At first it appeared to stand still. Then it moved nearer and descended to about 500 feet as it went away.

The Air Force concluded the object was probably aircraft. The file noted that an approaching aircraft can appear to stand still, and that the object showed a rapid descent and added speed, which is also typical of an airplane.
