# Summary

On September 22, 1962, several residents of the Carrasco area near Montevideo, Uruguay reported seeing an unusual object in the sky around 3 to 3:30 p.m. The witnesses described a round, disc-like object approximately 50 centimeters in diameter with a white color and a bright center. The object was visible at a high altitude and moved in circles, then descended and ascended again over the course of 15 to 20 minutes.

The observation forms filled out by multiple witnesses provide some additional details. One observer noted that the object initially appeared to have a shape like a cross or symbol before resolving into a disc. The witnesses heard no sound and reported no visible portholes or windows. The object's motion was uniform but included the circular and vertical movements described. According to the available witness statements, the phenomenon ended abruptly as the object rose into the sky.

A Uruguayan UFO investigation center documented the case and analyzed the witness accounts. The center noted that the data provided by observers was insufficient for a full determination of the object's nature. However, one crucial detail was highlighted: a witness reported that the object "remained stationary for approximately two minutes." The investigation center suggested the object was likely unidentified but could not rule out the possibility of aircraft maneuvering in the area at the time, as one observer had mentioned seeing reaction aircraft flying over Carrasco and nearby areas.

The U.S. Air Force's evaluation of this case is listed as "unknown." The full case file, as preserved by the National Archives, comprises 17 pages.
