Project Blue Book Case File
St Louis, MissouriNovember 1955
Summary
On November 17, 1955, at about 1212Z, two elderly civilians saw objects over St. Louis, Missouri. One was a semi-retired man, and the other was a housewife. The sighting lasted about 45 seconds.
The witnesses reported twelve objects, round and flat like a baseball, dark on the bottom and silver-colored on top. They flew three abreast and four deep. The objects appeared to fly in formation but tipped from horizontal to vertical and from left to right. They made no sound and showed no visible power units. They were first seen at 75 degrees elevation to the northeast and disappeared over the horizon in the northeast. The sky was clear with the sun shining.
The wing intelligence officer suggested a possible cause was a new type of aircraft flying in formation. The Air Force record card lists the case as unidentified, with a note questioning whether the objects could have been birds.
