Summary

On November 5, 1961, a military witness at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, reported an object at about 1:07 a.m. local time. The source was a special agent judged reliable. The object was a blue-green streak of light. It began with a flash of yellow light, then changed to a blue-green streak that widened into a pie-shaped segment as it fell. One object was seen. It was at an azimuth of about 330 degrees, in a northerly direction, on a gentle, even path. The sighting lasted about one full second. The weather was clear and calm. The Air Force noted the sighting had all the marks of a bolide as it explodes. It listed the case as a meteor.
