Summary

On April 14, 1960, a falling object changing color from red to reddish white was observed from San Diego, California. The object was observed from 26 degrees at 280 degrees and disappeared below the horizon at 330 degrees. It was in view for 15 seconds. No sound or tail was reported. The military source noted the sighting matched a Satellite Decay pattern. The direction, color, and duration suggested excessive duration for a meteor and disappearance over horizon indicated a decay rather than a meteor sighting.
