Summary

On the night of July 30, 1954, a military witness at Sampson Air Force Base, New York, reported a star like object. The sighting lasted a few seconds, between about 10:57 and 11:02 p.m. The object was round and about the size of other stars, with a reddish hue. It made no sound and showed no clear features.

The object was seen sporadically through overcast and clouds at about 45 degrees elevation. It disappeared above the clouds for a short time, then reappeared and traveled in the same direction before being lost to view in light haze.

The Air Force record card said the object was a star seen through overcast. It listed the case as insufficient data, with no course or speed determined.
