Project Blue Book Case File
Roseburg, OregonNovember 1961
Summary
In November 1961, a witness in Roseburg, Oregon reported seeing an object gliding silently through the sky. The sighting lasted about two and a half minutes. The observer took three photographs of the object at the time and sent one negative and prints to the Air Force, along with a letter dated July 3, 1962.
The Air Force's Technical Information Division analyzed the photographs and negatives submitted by the witness. After examination, they concluded that the images on the film failed to show any clear picture of an unidentified flying object. The Air Force also requested the other negatives mentioned in the original letter, but the OCR quality of the subsequent correspondence makes it difficult to determine with certainty whether additional materials were received or analyzed.
The witness completed a detailed questionnaire about the sighting, though the OCR quality of the response pages is poor and limits what can be reliably extracted from those portions of the file. The case was ultimately classified by the Air Force as insufficient data for evaluation, meaning there was not enough clear evidence to reach a definitive conclusion about what was observed.
The full case file, comprising 19 pages, is reproduced below as held by the National Archives.
