Summary

On the night of September 23, 1952, multiple witnesses at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia reported seeing a group of unidentified lights in the sky. The first sighting occurred around 2310 hours (11:10 p.m.), when a civilian guard spotted 15 to 20 round, yellow-white lights circling in a counter-clockwise direction about 5 miles to the west-southwest of the base, at an estimated altitude of 1,500 to 2,000 feet. The objects maintained a steady glow and never climbed or descended during his observation, which lasted three to four minutes.

After returning to the Main Gate, the guard asked two Air Police officers to accompany him back to a point south of 5th Street Gate for a closer look. Both officers then observed five or six similar round lights in a due west direction, at roughly the same distance and altitude. These witnesses described the lights as about the same brightness as surrounding stars, just slightly brighter. The lights appeared to circle and held their position throughout the approximately five minute observation period. A plane took off from a nearby field and passed between the objects and the observers during the sighting, though its distance from the objects could not be estimated.

None of the witnesses reported hearing any sound, vibration, smoke, flame, or odor from the objects. Weather conditions at the time were clear, with 12 miles visibility and calm surface winds. A check with the base weather station confirmed that no weather balloons had been released on that date. However, fifteen T-6 aircraft had been dispatched from Bainbridge Air Field at 2200 hours (10 p.m.) and were in the vicinity of Robins Air Force Base during the time of the sightings. The Air Force later confirmed that those aircraft reported no unusual objects sighted. The case file does not provide a final conclusion as to what the objects were.
