Summary

On June 26, 1956, observers at a Ground Observer Corps post in Plattsburg, New York, reported seeing a round, glowing object about the size of a two-engine aircraft. The object appeared yellowish and remained visible for roughly two minutes as it descended from a high angle. The observers reported that the object approached a multi-engine aircraft, then headed east before fading from view.

The Air Force investigated the sighting and noted that an F-94B jet fighter was in the area at the same time. Intelligence officers at the 784th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron concluded the sighting was possibly caused by light reflecting off the jet aircraft's exhaust. No radar correlation was found between the UFO report and the aircraft. Weather conditions at the time included scattered clouds, winds from the northwest at 33 knots, and visibility of 4.5 miles. No intercept action was taken.

The file notes there was no physical evidence to support the sighting and no further analysis was possible. The Air Force evaluation listed in the case is "unknown," though the commentary in the file suggests the investigators leaned toward an aircraft-related explanation.
