Opportunity, MontanaJuly 1953
Summary
On July 14, 1953, about 2043 (8:43 p.m.), civilians saw an object near Opportunity, Montana. The witnesses were two residents, considered reliable. They watched from their homes by eye.
The object was round and estimated at four to five feet in diameter. It was a whitish yellow color, described as shiny like a big mirror. There was only one object. No aerodynamic features, propulsion, trail, or exhaust were seen. It moved very fast and made no sound. It floated up and down, then disappeared, sinking down below the horizon.
The weather was clear with no wind, and winds aloft were unknown. The approving officer believed the object was a weather balloon. The Air Force listed the case as insufficient data for evaluation, noting that the object could possibly be a balloon, but the course and other details were unknown.
