Unidentified

Summary

On February 22, 1953, at about 2145 (9:45 p.m.) Mountain time, a civilian reported an unidentified object over Dodson, Montana. The witness was a local man, Donald H. Lee, who sent his report by letter. He said two other people also saw it.

The object was at an estimated altitude of about 23,000 feet. It first looked bright red. After several minutes it grew brighter, then suddenly changed direction. Its color changed to a rose light. It quickly grew dimmer and finally faded away. The sighting lasted a few minutes.

The source said he thought the object was too bright to be astronomical. The Air Force did not agree. There were no photos and no physical evidence. The Air Force concluded the cause was astronomical, the planet Venus.
